In dance composition we focus on the art of creating dance. This video was submitted for the 2021 class, during the on-line section. In dance composition and for this assignment we explored site specific dance and how we can experience and utilize our surroundings as inspiration and connection for a piece of choreography.

Josh H. was born and raised in Invermere, British Columbia where he took his first dance class at the age of 11. He quickly fell in love with the art.

Josh competitively danced with Invermere’s United Dance from 2014 through 2019 where he received many scholarships and awards. He also received the Top Scoring solo in 2019 at the Kick It Up dance competition. He quickly pushed his career forward by moving to Calgary in 2019 where he joined Central Memorial’s PVA program, and auditioned for Universe Soul Dance to further broaden his disciplines.

Josh has trained in many disciplines such as contemporary, ballet, lyrical, jazz, and various styles of HipHop including house, vogue, waacking, popping, and locking. His primary style fuses his knowledge of hip hop with the essence of contemporary dance. He was featured in multiple dance videos choreographed and produced by Lenny Lenz.

Josh is a recipient of the Jaime Hill and Tammy-Lynn Powers memorial foundation scholarship. He has trained under the guidance of numerous professional Canadian choreographers, including Goldie Wong, Apple Sulit, Amanda Affonso, Christie Preston, and many others. Josh is a strong advocate for a positive and supportive environment, which is an outlook he pushes for in and out of class.
